I received an email from a client trying to capture video in Snagit. But when trying to play the snagit video no sound was heard.Hi PeterI’m having a problem and wonder if you could offer some advice. The audio invideo clips with sound that I’m recording is not showing up any longer.Until recently, the audio was just fine.
I’m not aware of any changes I’vemade in recording or settings. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks a lotMarkRead on to find the solution to this common Hi Mark,Good to hear from you.The problem you are describing is not related to Snagit, it is related to the settings of your sound card.Often these settings are changed by different software without you changing any settings. Any software that works with sound on your computer can actually influence the settings. What also complicates matters is that every brand of sound card work differently. How to set up sound when recording video with SnagitFirst off, make sure you have the correct Snagit profile “Record Screen Video” or if you have made your own profiles, one that activates the Snagit screen video recording.Step 2) Make sure you have the “microphone” (symbolizes sound) activeLook at the bottom of the Snagit management window, the Options area and make sure that the Microphone is active. It needs to have a blue circle to be active.Step 3) Record and testDo a quick recording of something making sound and see if the sound is recorded in the video. If not you will need to change the settings of the sound card.Step 4) Go to OptionsThis is handled a little bit different in Vista and XP.In Vista:1.
Choose Start Control Panel Hardware and Sound Sound Recording tab.2. Right-click in that window and select Show Disabled Devices. If you are still not getting sound after enabling devices, experiment a little bit with different settings to get it working. In XP:1. Choose Start Control Panel Sounds and Audio Devices Audio tab.2. In Sound recording section, verify your sound card is selected as the Default Device. Also experiment a little bit with different settings here.Let me know how it goes.Hope you had some help from this one too.Until next time 😉Peter – Your Snagit Guide. I’ve used SnagIt for a long time, but once upgrading to Vista, I could no longer record the audio for the videos.
It was quite frustrating. After trying all the suggestions – still nothing.
I then found a program called liteCAM on the internet, did the trial and it picked up the audio for the videos!!! So I opted to buy the full version of that instead of upgrading to Snag-it 9.If this cheaper program can do it – there is no reason Snag-it can’t.
Don’t blame it on Vista – there a problem between the two of you. Here’s how I solved it on Windows XP using a SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card.Go to Control panel - sound & audio devices - audio tabclick on volume under sound recording section.I have the following input options: MIDI Synth, Analog Mix, Microphone, and WAV/MP3. Microphone was selected, which obviouslly doesnt work.I tried selecting one at a time until it worked. The last thing I selected (WAV/MP3) worked! As a side note, if your video captures are only producing black or possibly other color screens, try slowing down the hardware acceleration on your video card. I FINALLY found the problem, the instructions are NOT specific enough, but they are close. Do this for XP:1. Start, Settings, Control Panel.2.
Click SOUNDS-AND-AUDIO-DEVICES icon.3. Click Audio Tab, then Sound Recording (middle part) click VOLUME.4. (at the top) Click open the pull-down menu called OPTIONS, then click PROPERTIES.5. Click the boxes: STEREO MIX, CD PLAYER, LINE IN. Un-click MICROPHONE and everything else. The circular buttons above these boxes should be clicked RECORDING, playback un-clicked. Then click OK.7. Go back to #3 here, click on VOLUME again.
A pop-up should come up with all your audio volume levels (stereo mix, cd player, line-in) MAKE SURE THE STEREO MIX BOX AT THE BOTTOM LEFT OF IT’S VOLUME SLIDE BAR IS CHECKED AND THE VOLUME IS UP ALL THE WAY!For safety, unplug any microphonesI have no idea how the audio got clicked off, or the volume reset or whatever, I never touched anything before. Check out the post from Tyler October 13th, 2009 on 1:13 pmSnagIT is NOT running.Control Panel Sound Recording Tab Right Click in white space below your recording devices. Be sure both “Show disconnected devices” AND “Show disabled devices” are checked. Highlight your new device STEREO MIX and click the Properties button Levels Tab Move the slider into the 70s. If you want to offset a hearing loss in either ear click the Balance button and adjust the slider. Click OK OK and close control panel. Launch SnagIT.
Hi Mehrdad,Snagit has always captured according to your screen settings. If you chose to capture an area 100×100 pixels your capture in Snagit will have the exact same resolution. As far as I understand dpi is a measurement for video and printing jobs and because snagit captures the screen you will get exactly the resolution you have on your screen. The screen resolution on PC is about 96 dpi so my guess is your captures will have the same resolution.I am not sure how you could change this in previous versions. Perhaps if you describe more what it is you want to do I can experiment?.
