I waited six months for this?Magnus and Alec have a dreadful beginning of their date and Magnus regretted going out with Alec even more times than I regretted reading about it. Fortunately, Catarina saved them (and me) by putting an end to it. A werewolf emergency arose!
Too bad Clare also sucks at writing fighting scenes. So, Alec is special to Magnus because reasons and he broke the law, which was nice. I mean come on, is that all? I mean come on, is that all? Seriously?Original pre-read review here: Ugh, this was supposed to be published at the end of December and now it's 21st January?! Can you stop changing stories and dates all the time? This is another disappointment. I've had enough with this shit! Don't plan series you can't write damn it!!!Edit 1: And now it's 18th February. I just can't handle this anymore.Edit 2: So, the story will be published on 19th November 17th December 31st December 2013 21st January 18th February March 2014.
Eventually.Come on, Clare. IT WON'T WRITE ITSELF. This is an honest to god 5-star rating. I am just so very grateful that this series exists even though it consists of short-stories I still had the chance of getting inside Magnus' head and it's a place I'd very much like to stay in forever. He's wondrous, the way he thinks, the way Cassie writes his character and all of her characters, if I'm being completely truthful.

Their first date was, how should I put it, perfect. It was not instant, it took its time and I think the real date started when their actual date ended.
I love how these two interact and I love how they're not afraid of putting themselves out there. 2.5 of 5 stars (Please read my rating system further below). MALEC FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER.My rating system: (I do use half stars.)5 - I do not use the 5 star.

I hated how he kept whining about other people being horrible, selfish dicks especially when he didn't realise he was one himself. The deluded, self-involved idiot still had no idea what a predatory, shallow, hypocritical douche he was.-The very last sentence was Magnus stating that he didn't want Alec to break his heart — which to me possibly foreshadows Alec dying in CoHF as that would end up 'breaking' Magnus's heart.
I hope that's not the case because if anyone should die it's Magnus, he's lived long enough, had plenty of adventures, and experienced many loves - Alec on the other hand has had very little anything in his life. I doubt that Magnus even loves Alec, he's just horny for him because he's young and likes the way he looks.I'll be so pissed if Alec dies, not just because he's one of the few decent characters in the series but also because I don't want to read about Magnus whining when it's clear he'll easily move on from Alec and find love with the next handsome teenage boy he comes across.
There's no way he'd be truly heartbroken, he'll probably only pretend so he can get sympathy and attention from everyone else.I'm positive that Magnus will at some point end up flirting with one Jace/Clary/Isabelle's descendants in the future. Which is just creepy and weird, of course Magnus will think it's perfectly fine to flirt with his friends descendants. Ugh.-Was this novella meant to show that Alec was somehow different to the many other people Magnus fell for or lusted after? Alec was just the latest in a long line of loves for Magnus. And when he's dead, there'll be countless more like him and he'll just be a distant forgettable memory.-The Bane novellas have just been chock full of Magnus banging on about how mean and racist Shadowhunters are and how hard done by he is.
The thing is I didn't 'see' it for myself, all I was shown was a pathetic old man who still acts like a spoilt brat and complains every chance he gets. There was nothing good about Magnus that came out of the novellas. If anything his bitching just proved what a petty wanker he was - I ended up thinking Magnus was the one who was the racist prat, the Shadowhunters compared to him looked reasonable. Magnus should have stopped judging other people and looked at his own vile attitude. All in all, an unremarkable and dull story that added nothing of relevance to the TMI series overall. The novellas just showed what a complete bastard Magnus was, he was tolerable when he wasn't a POV character but as a MC he was an insufferable, irredeemable, pissy, little git.
“And silver, though few people knew it, was a rarer metal than gold.”Oh lord, this was adorable. This story shows Magnus and Alec’s first date and it was pretty sweet. Again, I will say that it is incredibly not okay that a 300+ year old warlock is dating a seventeen-year-old, but if you take that away from the equation then it was a really sweet and realistic depiction of an awkward and messy first date. Well, besides going to bar and having to fight a werewolf together.

(I read this in!) ✨. Could this be more perfect?? I just want to re-read this all over again! Why was it so short? I want more!!!!

Guys, I really hate Magnus Bane.I really hate this ship too, because I think Alec deserves better than this sleazy warlock. Really Alec deserves better than this whole series but that's beside the point right now.Let me be clear that my hatred for this ship has nothing to do with homophobia as I'm sure the fanbase would claim. It has to do with the fact that Magnus is three hundred years old and preying on an inexperienced teenage boy and that just throws up all kinds of creepy red flags for Guys, I really hate Magnus Bane.I really hate this ship too, because I think Alec deserves better than this sleazy warlock. It has to do with the fact that Magnus is three hundred years old and preying on an inexperienced teenage boy and that just throws up all kinds of creepy red flags for me.I'm betting that this short was supposed to be a cute fluffy piece to endear us to this couple. If anything I want to rescue poor Alec and find him someone less shallow and more age appropriate. In Magnus's own words: Alec was a closeted, shy, obviously insecure, and obviously hung up on his blond friend Trace Wayland. So what does Magnus do to this shy boy who obviously prefers being able to just fade into the background? Well first inwardly judges his outfit and redresses him in a flashy black sequin top when Alec spills drink on the shirt he shows up in.Which leads to this classy exchange:'I'm-sorry about being a lousy, date,' Alec muttered.' What are you talking about?' Magnus asked. 'You're a fantastic date.
You've only been here ten minutes and I already got half your clothes off.' Way to make your teenage date who you've already stated is awkward and insecure feel comfortable Magnus. You stay classy. When Alec expresses discomfort from being looked at on the subway and wants to be able to use a rune to make himself invisible, the great selfish and inconsiderate Bane tells him hell no he refuses to have it appear that he's alone on a Friday night. Then for good measure he brings Alec to a Downworlder restaurant where Alec is instantly treated like garbage.Magnus Bane is about as deep as a kiddie pool at no point do I genuinely feel that Magnus is in this relationship or date for any other reason than Alec is good looking.
They try to shoehorn more reasons near the end, but it doesn't ring as true when most of the time he's saying things like this:'Knockout?' Alec said.Magnus raised an eyebrow at him.
'You had to know I thought so. Why else would I agree to go on a date with you?' .Gags. Run Alec. Run and find someone who will appreciate you.I wish I could have liked this couple. I wish it wasn't so awful. But I don't I want to accept it because hey at least it's something.
This relationship comes off super shallow and on Mangus's end a more than bit creepy. It feels like Alec is being taken advantage of. I would love to see more same-sex couples in books, but not like this. This was kinda cute-FAVOURITE QUOTES:' Alec looked instantly worried, as if he thought Magnus was going to take it all back and say that actually he had changed his mind. He was beautiful and hopeful and hesitant, a heartbreaker who wore his heart on his sleeve. Magnus found himself wanting to show his hand, to take a risk and be vulnerable. He recognized and accepted this strange new feeling: that he would rather be hurt himself than hurt Alec.“Friday night this was kinda cute-FAVOURITE QUOTES:' Alec looked instantly worried, as if he thought Magnus was going to take it all back and say that actually he had changed his mind.
He was beautiful and hopeful and hesitant, a heartbreaker who wore his heart on his sleeve. Magnus found himself wanting to show his hand, to take a risk and be vulnerable. He recognized and accepted this strange new feeling: that he would rather be hurt himself than hurt Alec.“Friday night would be fine,” Magnus said, and Alec smiled his brilliant, light-up-the-world smile and backed out of the apartment, still looking at Magnus. He backed up all the way to the top of the stairs. There was a yell, but Magnus had already risen and closed the door before he could see Alec fall down the steps, as that was the sort of thing a man had to do in private. He did lean on the windowsill, though, and watch Alec emerge from his building’s front door, tall and pale and messy-haired, and walk off down Greenpoint Avenue, whistling off-key. And Magnus found himself hoping. He had been taught so many times that hope was foolish, but he could not help it, as heedless as a child straying close to the fire and stubbornly refusing to learn from experience. It felt so different; surely that had to mean something. Maybe the year to come would be a good year for both of them.
Maybe this time things would work out the way Magnus wanted them to.Maybe Alexander Lightwood would not break his heart. ' Apparently-Jace was beautiful, but he was the sort of person that knew it, and they were often more trouble than they were worth. If Jace was gold, catching the light and the attention, Alec was silver: so used to everyone else looking at Jace that that was where he looked too, so used to living in Jace’s shadow that he didn’t expect to be seen. Maybe it was enough to be the first person to tell Alec that he was worth being seen ahead of anyone in a room, and of being looked at longest. And silver, though few people knew it, was a rarer metal than gold. ' “Alexander,” he murmured, wanting to say more than just “Alec,” to call him by a name that was longer than and different from the name everybody else called him, a name with weight and value to it. He whispered the name as if making a promise that he would take his time.
' Magnus had heard the story of how the Nephilim were created many times. They must have forgotten to leave out the bit that said: And the Angel descended from on high and gave his chosen ones fantastic abs. Alec looked up at Magnus, and his lips parted as if he was going to speak.
He watched Magnus with wide eyes, wondering at being watched. Magnus exercised heroic self-control, smiled, and offered the shirt. “I’m—sorry about being a lousy date,” Alec muttered.“What are you talking about?” Magnus asked. “You’re a fantastic date. You’ve only been here ten minutes, and I already got half of your clothes off.”' He liked how Alexander said the things that other people thought and never said. He liked how Alec called him Magnus, and not “warlock.” He liked how Alec’s shoulders moved under his jacket. (Sometimes he was shallow.) '.

Malec will always be one of my favourite couples, and it's a damn shame we don't get more of them in the main series. But these little pearls of Cassandra's writing about these two? I can't stop thinking about Alec's awkwardness around Magnus or Magnus' insecurities around Alec. They are just meant to be together. No one can't deny that, and I'm scared to death about City of Heavenly Fire. Cassandra wouldn't write something like this and then kill them on the last book of TMI right?! No one can be that cruel.
No even Cassandra. If she does kill one of them I'll be crying for years. I'm not fully recovered from Clockwork Princess I'm not ready for another Cassandra's stab in the heart.
